Morelia Mexico

Morelia is the capital of the state of Michoacan in Mexico. Morelia is Mexico’s best-kept secret and it is a colonial gem. Its well-preserved historic quarter was declared a Unesco World Heritage site in 1991.The beautiful streets of the city centre are full of 16th and 17th Spanish Baroque architecture, done in pink volcanic stone. These beautiful buildings house museums, restaurants, hotels and sidewalk cafes. The cathedral, located at Zocalo or Plaza de los Martires, is a mixture of Neo-Classical and Baroque architecture. Some say that this cathedral is the most beautiful of Mexico. The Aqueduct is an impressive construction located at the eastern end of Avenida Madero. This huge construction was built in the 17th century to bring water into the city from hillside springs. The aqueduct consists of 253 arches and still feeds the fountain of the garden of Villalongin.Morelia is a very pleasant city with good weather, exquisite contemporary Mexican cuisine, nice parks to relax in, lovely fountains everywhere, lots of local handcrafts and very friendly people. All things considered, what’s not to like?
