Day 1 – Bari Area
Transfer to the hotel and the rest of the day at leisure to start exploring the city on your own. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2 – Bari Area / Trani / Monte Sant’Angelo / Gargano Area
Breakfast. Departure towards Trani and visit of its elegant historic center, famous for its lively marina. Walk through its light-stone streets to the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim. Free time and lunch. In the afternoon, visit Monte Sant’Angelo with entrance to the sanctuary and the grotto of Saint Michael the Archangel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arrival at the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 3 – Gargano Area / Vieste / San Giovanni Rotondo / Gargano
Breakfast. Guided tour of the historic center of Vieste, through narrow streets, arches, and viewpoints over the sea. Lunch. In the afternoon, departure to San Giovanni Rotondo to visit the sites associated with the life of Saint Pio (Padre Pio), one of Italy’s most revered spiritual figures. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 – Gargano / Barletta / Bari / Itria Valley
Breakfast. Departure to Barletta, where we will enjoy a pleasant walk through the historic center, admiring the main monuments such as the Norman castle, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Colossus of Barletta (“Eraclio”), and the “Challenge Cellar.” Then, visit to a local olive oil mill with a tasting accompanied by the famous Altamura bread. Lunch and continuation to Bari, with a visit to the historic center and the Basilica of Saint Nicholas, a masterpiece of Apulian Romanesque architecture. Transfer to the Itria Valley area. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 – Itria Valley / Castellana Caves / Alberobello / Ostuni / Itria Valley
Breakfast. Departure to the Castellana Caves and visit. Arrival in Alberobello, the “capital of the trulli,” lunch and walk through its monumental area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Departure to Ostuni, the “white city,” and walk through its picturesque historic center, including a visit to its Romanesque-Gothic cathedral. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 6 – Itria Valley / Lecce / Otranto / Itria Valley
Breakfast. Departure to Lecce, the “Florence of the South,” capital of Apulian Baroque. Visit to the historic center including the Basilica of Santa Croce, Piazza del Duomo, and Piazza S. Oronzo. Small olive oil tasting before lunch. In the afternoon, departure to Otranto, the “Gateway to the East,” with its Romanesque cathedral, the Chapel of the Holy Martyrs, and its evocative crypt. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7 – Itria Valley / Matera / Bari Area
Breakfast. Departure to Matera, European Capital of Culture 2019, a city carved into rock, where we will visit the famous “sassi” (cave dwellings), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunch and continuation to the Bari area. Dinner and overnight.
Day 8 – Bari Area
Breakfast. At the agreed time, transfer to the airport.
