Day 1 Portugal / Funchal
Departure by plane to Funchal. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure, depending on flight arrival time. Accommodation.
Day 2 Funchal / West Madeira / Funchal
At a time to be arranged locally, pick-up at the hotel or nearby point for departure on an excursion through the west of Madeira island. Departure to the most important fishing port in Madeira: Câmara de Lobos. The decoration made of boats and fishing nets drying in the open air immerses the visitor in the fisherman's daily life. Continuation to the Cabo Girão cliff, the third highest in the world. The view offers an impressive panorama of the ocean and Funchal. Next, departure to Ribeira Brava to visit its church with white and blue tiles. The route continues through the laurel forests on the Paul da Serra plateau, at 1400 meters altitude, the only flat area of the island, classified as a natural reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit to the Fanal forest and stop at the Ribeira da Janela viewpoint. Continuation to the northwest and stop in the town of Porto Moniz, famous for its natural pools carved in lava, where you will have free time for lunch and, if you wish, to take a swim. End of the excursion with a visit to the waterfalls on the north coast to São Vicente, known among surfers. Return to the hotel. Accommodation.
Day 3 Funchal / East Madeira / Funchal
At a time to be arranged locally, pick-up at the hotel or nearby point for departure on an excursion through the east of the island. The first stop will be at the Terreiro da Luta Viewpoint, with views over Funchal bay. Then, continuation to the town of Faial and continuation to Santana, a town famous for its thatched-roof houses surrounded by flowers, vines and apple trees. Lunch on your own. After this, climb to the Guindaste viewpoint, which offers a panoramic view of the north coast of Madeira, from Faial to Ponta de São Lourenço, at the eastern end of the island, passing by the monumental rock formation of Penha d'Águia. On days with good visibility, it is also possible to see from this observation point the island of Porto Santo, to the northeast. The excursion continues to Machico, where you will discover its historical and cultural heritage. Along the route, you can observe the large sugar cane terraces. Finally, visit to Ponta de São Lourenço, with panoramic views over the north and south sides of the island. Return to the hotel. Accommodation.
Day 4 Funchal
Day at leisure to enjoy the island's charm or do some activity such as whale watching or a boat trip around the bay. Accommodation.
Day 5 Funchal / Portugal
Transfer to the airport and return flight. Arrival.
